Soulman’s Family Meals: The Easiest Weeknight Dinner in DFW

You know that feeling around 5:30 PM on a Tuesday? School’s out, carpool is done, practice starts in an hour, and someone just asked the question every parent dreads: “What’s for dinner?”

When the week is moving at full speed, cooking a complete meal feels like a mountain. But settling for generic drive-thru fast food doesn’t feel great either. You want to serve your family real, wholesome food—without spending your entire evening standing over a stove or scrubbing pans at the sink.

That’s where we come in. At Soulman’s, we love being the simple, satisfying answer to a busy weeknight.

A Half-Century of Taking Care of Families

When you walk into Soulman’s, we want you to take a deep breath and feel right at home. For over 50 years, our team has been doing things the traditional way—smoking our meats low and slow over seasoned hickory wood overnight and making our signature sides fresh every morning.

When you sit down in our dining room, you aren’t just getting a plate of authentic Texas barbecue. You’re getting a quiet break in the middle of a chaotic week. It’s a chance to put the phones away, let us handle the cooking, and simply enjoy time together as a family. No reservations, no fuss, and no dishes waiting for you when you’re done.

Four Easy Ways We Make Weeknight Dinners a Win

Whether you’re pulling up a chair with us or grabbing a hot meal to bring home, here is how we help you win weeknight dinner:

1. The Smoked Chicken Plate: Honest Comfort Food Everyone Loves

If you want a hearty, wholesome individual meal, our smoked half-chicken plates are a go-to choice. We smoke our chicken in halves over hickory until tender and juicy, then carve them up into generous leg, breast, and thigh portions. Order one each for the adults, and the kiddos can share a plate. Paired with two of your favorite homemade sides and Texas toast, it’s a real-food masterpiece that helps you power through practice and homework.

2. Family Meals : One Order. Dinner Done.

Feeding more than a couple of hungry mouths? Our Chuck Wagon and Super Chuck Wagon make it easy. Choose your favorite hickory-smoked meats and family-size sides, served with sauce and bread. It’s a hearty meal with plenty to go around—all in one easy order.

3. A Relaxed Dining Room Built for Real Life

Our dining rooms are designed for real families. There’s no dress code, kids can be kids, and our team is always ready with a warm smile and a friendly face. It’s a comfortable, clean space where you can slow down and enjoy a great meal without any of the pressure.

4. Even Easier: Skip the Line, Order From the App

On those extra-packed nights when you are running straight from practice to homework, convenience is everything. Tap open the Soulman’s App, build your order in a few seconds, and pay ahead. Your meal will be hot and ready for quick pickup or delivered to your door, so you can have a feast on the table in minutes that will keep everyone full and happy.

Let Us Take Care of Dinner Tonight

At the end of the day, dinner shouldn’t be another chore on your to-do list. It should be the moment where you get to pause, listen to school-day stories, and catch up with the people who matter most.

Take the night off from the kitchen. Come pull up a chair in our dining room tonight, or open up the Soulman’s App to bring a warm, pit-smoked meal straight to your family’s table.

We Want to Be Part of Your Day “I just wanted to let you know how impressed we were with Nikki and the gentleman that that served at our wedding. They went above and beyond and we couldn’t be happier with their service! I was in a bit of a bind with a couple of things and they helped me tremendously. Would love to give a shout out to them but I apologize I can’t remember the gentleman’s name. If you could get that for me I would appreciate it.

Everyone raved about the food! The real hits were the hors d’oeuvres of course, ham and mashed potatoes.

We’ll definitely be keeping you in mind for any other events!

Thank you so much for everything! Teresa Pickerill ”

That is what we strive for with every event—a room full of satisfied guests and memories made around great Texas barbecue. We accept only the number of events our team can execute with the exceptional service and hospitality that have defined Soulman’s catering. Because of that commitment, our calendar often fills well in advance—especially during the busy fall season—so we encourage you to reserve your date early. The Ultimate Summer Survival Guide: The Perfect Meal for Parks, Picnics and Piers

A Texas summer weekend has a shape to it. Sunrise at the boat ramp. Mid-day burning daylight on the water. Late afternoon hauling a tired, sunburned crew back across the parking lot toward home. Somewhere in that summer fun, everybody gets hungry at the same time, and nobody wants the food to be the part you have to figure out.

That’s the gap we’ve been filling since 1974. You handle the boat, the cooler, the kids, the sunscreen. We handle hickory-smoked brisket, hand-sliced and piled high, ready when you pull up. No shortcuts. Just smoke. Here are three things that’ll make your next lake day go a whole lot smoother.

BBQ for the Lake Starts in the Soulman’s App

Here’s the part most crews learn the hard way: noon at Soulman’s on a summer Saturday is a parking lot of folks who all had the same idea you did. You stand in line. You watch the clock. Daylight is the asset, and you’re spending it on the wrong side of the counter.

The Soulman’s app fixes that. Open it from the truck. Open it from the dock. Open it from the bait shop while somebody else is buying ice. Pick your meats, pick your sides, pick your pickup time, and your order is in the queue before you’ve even put the boat back on the trailer.

When you walk in, your name’s already on a bag of low-and-slow goodness. Walk in, walk out, back on the road. No line. No “I’ll have to ask the kitchen.” No watching the rush from inside it.

A few things crews tend to load up for a day on the water: brisket by the pound, ribs by the slab, sausage links, and a stack of heaping sides — potato salad, beans, slaw, mac. We’re not stingy with our meat, so order for the crew you actually have, not the one you wish would eat less.

One last tip. Set the order up the night before. Future you, standing on a dock with sun in your eyes and a tackle box in one hand, will say thank you.

Hot Off the Pit, Still Hot at the Dock

Getting Texas-sized portions from our pit to your pier in good shape isn’t complicated, but a few small moves make a big difference. After fifty years of feeding folks who eat on the move, here’s what we’ve watched work.

Use an empty cooler as a hot box. Coolers don’t just keep cold things cold — they keep hot things hot. Drop the foil pans straight in, lay a clean kitchen towel over the top, and snap the lid shut. The brisket, ribs, and sausage will hold up for the drive a whole lot better than they will in the cardboard box riding shotgun.

Keep the sides in their own container. Potato salad and cole slaw don’t want the same temperature as the beans and brisket. Don’t stack them together; you’ll end up with sad sides nobody touches. A second small cooler with an ice pack handles the cold ones; the hot sides ride with the meat.

Sauce on the side. Always. The snap of bark on a slice of brisket is the whole point. Pour sauce on at the dock, not in the kitchen. Same with bread. Pack it on top of the bag so nothing presses it into a brick.

Plan for the round trip. If the day involves a pickup on the way to the lake or a stop on the way home, plan ahead for a worry free trip.

Pop the lid at the dock and you’ll know it worked. The hickory hits before the first plate does.

Trailer-Friendly Stops Near Cedar Creek, Ray Hubbard, Tawakoni, and Lake Lavon

Good BBQ near the lake is easy to find. A parking lot that fits your trailer is the harder part. A lot of restaurants weren’t built with a 22-foot bass rig in mind. You roll in, count the corners, count the angles, and back out again to find a spot down the road that means a quarter-mile walk in the heat with your lunch.

Several of our stores were built for trucks and trailers. You pull in, you pull out, and you’re back on the road without the parking stress.

If your weekend lands near Cedar Creek Lake, there’s a Soulman’s set up for an easy stop on the south-end run. Coming back through east DFW from Lake Ray Hubbard, there’s one that’s built for in-and-out. Lake Tawakoni crews have a store on the route home that handles big rigs without making a thing of it.

Order in the Soulman’s app on the boat ramp, swing in, swing out. Your name’s already on the bag. Your trailer never had to apologize for being in the lot. Your crew gets fed, and the rig stays pointed toward home.

Bringing It Home

That’s the whole shape of it. Pit. Park. Pier. Back to the driveway with everybody full, the cooler empty, and the truck pointed at sunset.

Soulman’s has been treating customers like family since 1974, and a summer weekend is one of our favorite shifts. Download the app, pick a stop on the way to the water, and let us handle the food part. Got a bigger crew coming over after the boat’s back on the trailer? Our catering team can put a backyard spread together that’ll make the day land soft.

Come on by — we’ll have the pit going.

The Dad-Approved Guide to Father’s Day

Why Dad is Putting up the Tongs This Year

Howdy, neighbors! By the time mid-June hits North Texas, the “excitement” of standing over a 200-degree grill starts to lose its appeal. While we all love a good backyard cookout, that Texas sun has a way of turning a fun afternoon into a grueling shift.

This Father’s Day, we’re proposing a new tradition: Dad’s Day Off. We think the family grillmaster deserves a promotion—from the guy working the grill to the guest of honor. At Soulman’s, we’ve been smokin’ the good stuff since 1974, so let us handle the hickory while Dad handles the relaxation.

The A/C Sanctuary: Trade the Humidity for a Booth

Let’s be honest: Dad has spent enough time battling mosquitoes and monitoring charcoal levels. Why spend his big day sweating over a hot grate when you can join us in the dining room? Our stores are the ultimate “A/C Sanctuary” where the only thing hotter than the weather is our Bar-B-Que.

Moving the party indoors to your local Soulman’s means Dad can actually focus on the conversation instead of the internal temperature of a brisket. Make it a family Father’s Day tradition where you celebrate dad while we provide the heaping portions and the scratch-made sides, and we even handle the dishes. Nuff said.

The June Special: A Lighter Summer Classic

If Dad or anyone in the crew is looking for something hearty, our June Monthly Special is the perfect play. The 1/2 Chicken Plate is served bone-in with crispy, flavorful skin and hickory smoked to tender perfection for that authentic Soulman’s flavor in every bite. It’s a tried-and-true choice for the Dad who appreciates a legacy of real flavor. Don’t forget to leave a little room for pie!

The Ultimate FATHER’S DAY Reward

Not sure what to get the man who has everything? Skip the novelty ties and give him the Ultimate Reward: A Soulman’s Gift Card. Whether he’s fueling up for a lake trip or just needs a “Soul-Full” lunch during the work week, a gift card lets him enjoy his favorites on his own schedule.

The Soccer World is Coming

With the world coming to DFW for the big soccer matches this month, our dining rooms are going to be jumping. Whether you’re a local regular or visiting Texas for the first time, come see what we’re smokin’.

This June 21st, treat Dad like family. We’ll have the pits running, the A/C cranking, and a heaping plate waiting for him. Stay blessed!

The Specialty Star: The Bar-B-Cuterie Board

Looking to wow the crowd with something a little different? We are officially introducing the Bar-B-Cuterie board—our specialty, high-impact catering spread.

This isn’t your average snack tray. We take our “low and slow” hickory-smoked meats, arrange them artfully as bite-sized portions of our unique artisan bites, and finish it off with plenty of fruits and cheeses. It’s a bar-b-que powered masterpiece that acts as the perfect centerpiece for a corporate soccer watch party, wedding rehearsal gathering or any elegant summer social event. It’s design and flavor that’s as big and beautiful as Texas!

The “I Do” Rescue: Last-Minute Wedding Heroes

Planning a summer wedding on a tight timeline? We know how stressful that “home stretch” can be. While other caterers might not be able to accommodate quick turnaround, Soulman’s specializes in high-capacity service. We’ve got the know how and the heart to handle the heavy lifting so you can focus on the vows. From “I do” to the last dance, we’ll keep your guests fueled with the soul of Texas Bar-B-Que.

The Wedding Date “Sweet Spot”

If you’re dreaming of a crisp, fall wedding, here’s a pro tip: October is the sweet spot. October dates in Texas fill up fast. Booking your catering now ensures your spot on our calendar and gives you one less thing to worry about when the leaves start to turn.

Bar-B-Que Buffet Made for Texas

For those massive reunions or memorable celebrations, our Texas Sized Buffet options are built to feed the whole block. We provide the heaping portions and that “treating you like family” service that has made us a neighborhood staple for over 50 years.

Ready to get your Soul-Full? Visit our website or give your local store a call to book catering. Whether it’s a specialty Bar-B-Cuterie board or a Texas-sized buffet, we’ll handle the smoke while you handle the celebration.

See y’all soon, and stay blessed!
