The Soulman's BBQ Menu, Hickory-Smoked Since 1974

Hickory-smoked meats and scratch-made sides, prepared the same way at every North and East Texas location.

Order Online →

What's on this menu is the same Texas barbecue the Hallett family has always served, at every North and East Texas location. We load the pits and get the smoke rolling the night before, then cook the sides from scratch every morning in the store. Most of it is what regulars order without thinking twice — plenty of folks have had the same plate, down to the two sides, for years running.

Let us know how you like your meat cut — lean, or with a little extra flavor — and we'll cut it that way at the block.

Plates

The center of the menu. Pick your meats, pick your sides, and we'll build the plate. Every plate comes with Texas toast and your choice of bar-b-que sauce.
  • Soulmans sides
  • Soulmans buttermilk pie

Fan Favorites

The plates and sandwiches regulars order without even glancing at the rest of the menu — combo lunches on a hoagie or round bun.

Big Time Taters

Texas-sized baked potatoes, served two ways. Pile on hickory-smoked meat, or load up with all the fixings on their own.

Chicken & Ribs

Our BBQ chicken is smoked by the half over seasoned hickory and carved into pieces at the counter. Our BBQ ribs go on the pit every morning, cooked low and slow and ready by the half rack, the full rack, or the plate.
  • Soulmans buttermilk pie
  • Soulmans sides

Soulman's Bowls

Layered over corn chips, potato or fries and built around the smoke. Pick one of ours, or build your own from the meats and toppings you like.

Family Style

Built for the table at home, with bigger portions and your choice of meats and sides so nobody's stuck at the stove.

By the Pound

Take home hickory-smoked meats by the pound, from sliced smoked turkey to hand-pulled pork, prepared the way you like it. We'll box it up, and if you're planning ahead for the holidays, take a look at our Thanksgiving menu too.
  • Soulmans sides
  • Soulmans buttermilk pie

Sandwiches

Hickory-smoked meat piled high on a bun.

Young 'Uns

For the smaller folks at the table: kid-sized portions, with the same scratch-made sides the rest of the table gets.

About Soulman's Bar-B-Que | Family-Owned Since 1974

Soulman's Bar-B-Que: A Family-Owned Texas BBQ Tradition

Don Hallett started it in Pleasant Grove in 1974. His daughters help lead it today, the same family, the same hickory smoke.

A family recipe that never left the family

Great Bar-B-Que. Great Service. Great God.

A small sign hangs on the wall of every Soulman’s location:

Great Bar-B-Que. Great Service. Great God.

CEO Brett Randle put those words up around 2007, but he was naming something that had already been true of the Hallett family a lot longer than that. It’s how the company decides what to do when something needs deciding — plain and simple, and it’s been that way a long time. The food has to earn the trust people put in it, and the service has to match it.

The faith part is real, and it’s not just a line on the wall. It shows up in the neighborhoods Soulman’s calls home and in the people who keep coming back, some of them for decades.

Same recipes, still the same welcome

We still load the pits and get the smoke rolling the night before, so the seasoned hickory has time to do its work before the doors open.

We still hand-slice and hand-bread as much of the menu as we can, cutting the ribs to order every day, and we still make the sides from scratch the way Memer, Don’s mother, wrote them down decades ago. We’re not stingy with our meat. We serve it by the plate, not by the scale, because that’s what treating people like family looks like on a Tuesday lunch rush.

More than twenty stores now, with more on the way, and the same standards at every one of them. The recipes and the wood haven’t changed. Neither has the way the person behind the counter says “welcome back” to somebody who was just in on Tuesday.

Recognition Along the Way

A couple of mentions we were glad to get, at the time we got them:

  • Named a Top Bar-B-Que Chain in America

    2018

Included in a national ranking of the country's top Bar-B-Que chains.

  • Recognized for Takeout & Delivery in Dallas

    2020

Singled out among Dallas restaurants for takeout and delivery.

Neither mention changed how we cook. The standards were already there, and we’ve kept at them the same way since. We also stay active in the neighborhoods our stores serve: booster clubs and blood drives among them.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long has Soulman's Bar-B-Que been in business?

Soulman’s has been serving Texas barbecue since October 19, 1974, when Don Hallett opened the first location in Pleasant Grove. The Hallett family has owned and run the company for more than fifty years, and Don’s daughters, Amber and Austin, help lead it today.

  • Is Soulman's Bar-B-Que family-owned?

Yes, Soulman’s Bar-B-Que is family-owned. Don Hallett founded it in 1974, and it’s stayed a family business ever since. His daughters Amber and Austin are both part of the leadership team, working alongside people who’ve spent years, in some cases decades, behind the counter and at the pits.

  • How many Soulman's locations are there?

  • What does “Great Bar-B-Que. Great Service. Great God.” mean?

The Soulman’s Winning Recipe means the company ties everything back to food and service worth trusting, and a faith that shows up in how it treats its neighborhoods and its people. CEO Brett Randle hung the sign in every location around 2007 to name values the Hallett family had already been living out.

  • Where can I find press coverage or media inquiries for Soulman's?

Our Press Room lists articles and recognition Soulman’s has received over the years, and it’s the best place to start for media inquiries. For a direct request, use the contact information on that page and our marketing team will follow up.

BBQ Catering, DFW & East Texas | Soulman's Bar-B-Que

BBQ Catering that's fed North and East Texas since 1974.

From the office lunch to the family reunion, we bring the barbecue, set it up right, and leave you free to enjoy the people you invited.

Fifty years of feeding Texas gatherings.

Families, businesses, churches, and schools across North and East Texas have trusted Soulman’s with their gatherings for over fifty years. Some of those are standing Friday office lunches; others are the once-in-a-lifetime days a family plans for a year. We handle the food and the setup either way, so you can be present for the part that actually matters: the people around the table.

Two ways to cater with Soulman’s.

Most of it comes down to one question: do you want to pick from a set menu, or would you rather we build something around your event? We do both, and the right path depends on the size and shape of what you’re planning.

  • Standard Catering — Party Packs

Ready-built packages for groups of ten and up. Choose your meats and your sides, and we’ll have everything ready for pickup or delivery. It’s the quickest way to feed a crowd when the plan is straightforward.

    Order from the standard menu

  • Custom Catering

Bigger events, more people, or a setup that needs more than a set menu? Our catering team builds the food and the service around what you’re hosting, with full service available for events of seventy-five and up — setup, serving, and cleanup included.

If it's a crowd, we can feed it.

We cater a little of everything across North and East Texas:

That’s not the whole list. We’ve handled birthday parties, retirement dinners, ribbon-cuttings, and plenty in between. If you don’t see your event here, ask us anyway — odds are we’ve done it.

Catering Packages

A few ways to feed the table.

  • Bar-B-Que Party Pack

The flagship. Two smoked meats, three sides, Texas toast or buns, barbecue sauce, a relish tray, tea and ice, plus plates, utensils, napkins, and cups. Add a third meat if you’d like one. Available for pickup (ten-person minimum), delivery (twenty-five), or full service (seventy-five).

  • Sandwich Party Pack

The faster version, built for office lunches and quicker gatherings. Two sandwich-portion meats, two sides, round buns, barbecue sauce, a relish tray, tea and ice, and the full setup of plates, utensils, napkins, and cups. Same minimums as the Bar-B-Que Party Pack.

  • Double Barrel Potato Bar

A Texas-sized baked potato with two boneless meats, butter, cheese, and sour cream, served with a relish tray, tea and ice, and all the disposables. Hearty, a little different, and a favorite for groups who want something other than the standard plate-and-side spread.

  • Fish Fry

Hand-breaded fish, fried on site at your event, served with two sides, hushpuppies, and tartar sauce. Full service only, seventy-five-person minimum. A go-to for schools, churches, and large gatherings looking for something a little different from the smoke.

Mix and match to build your package.

  • Meats:

Brisket, sausage, hot links, pulled pork, turkey, ham, chicken, ribs
  • Sides:

Potato salad, coleslaw, pinto beans, green beans, baked mac n’ cheese, spicy potatoes, Texas-style cream corn, ranch house beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, fried cabbage
  • Sweets (sold whole, by the unit):

Homemade pecan pie (serves 6–8), Memer’s buttermilk pie (serves 6–8), banana pudding (serves 20–25)

Pickup, delivery, and full service.

We meet your event where it is. Three ways we get the food to you:

  • Pickup — any size order, from any of our locations.
  • Delivery — for groups of twenty-five or more.
  • Full service — for events of seventy-five and up, with our team handling setup, serving, and cleanup.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many people do you need to cater for?

It depends on how you want the food delivered. Pickup catering starts at ten people, delivery at twenty-five, and full service — where our team sets up, serves, and cleans up — starts at seventy-five. Feeding fewer than ten? The Soulman’s app handles smaller orders straight from the menu.

  • What areas do you cater?

We cater across the Dallas–Fort Worth metro and throughout North and East Texas, from our locations in Allen, Cedar Hill, Forney, Fort Worth, Garland, Greenville, Gun Barrel City, Hurst, Lancaster, Lewisville, Mabank, Mansfield, Mesquite, North Richland Hills, Quinlan, Red Oak, Rockwall, Royse City, Sulphur Springs, Terrell, and Van. If your event is near one of our stores, we can most likely get to you.

  • Can you accommodate gluten or dairy allergies?

Yes — tell our catering team when you book and we’ll walk you through what works for your group. While we can’t guarantee our food is completely gluten-free due to the potential for cross-contamination, many of our menu items are made without gluten-containing ingredients, including all of our smoked meats, pinto beans, Ranch House beans, green beans, potato salad, coleslaw, fried cabbage, and mashed potatoes where available. One note: our barbecue sauce contains caramel coloring, which can affect some folks with gluten sensitivities. Texas toast, buns, baked mac n’ cheese, and cream corn aren’t gluten- or dairy-free. The more notice you give us, the better we can build the spread around your guests.

  • What's included with a catering order?

Every package comes with the food plus the setup around it: barbecue sauce, a relish tray, tea and ice, and disposables — plates, utensils, napkins, and cups. Full-service events also include our team handling the serving and the cleanup.

  • How far in advance should I book?

The sooner the better, especially around graduation season, the holidays, and wedding weekends, when dates fill up first. Online catering orders need at least 24 hours’ notice — if you’re up against it, give us a call and we’ll see what we can do. Even a rough heads-up before you’ve locked in your details helps our catering team hold the date.

  • Do you deliver and set up, or do I pick it up?

All three, depending on your event. Pickup is available for any size order from any location, delivery starts at twenty-five people, and full service starts at seventy-five with our team handling setup, serving, and cleanup.

A Texas Tradition Since 1974.

The Hallett family opened the first Soulman's in Pleasant Grove on October 19, 1974, cooking the same family recipes we still cook today. More than fifty years later, those standards haven't changed. We still smoke our meats low and slow over seasoned hickory and prepare our food with the same care that built Soulman's from the beginning. It's a tradition passed down through our family — and one we're proud to share with yours.

We're not stingy with our meat.

It started with something the family believed from the first day we opened: give folks good food and plenty of it, and they'll keep coming back. That hasn't changed. We believe in hearty plates, generous portions, hand-sliced meats, and scratch-made sides. Around here, we don't hold back — and there's always more than enough to go around. Because good Bar-B-Que was always meant to be shared.

Treating customers like family since 1974.

Whether you've been eating with us for thirty years or it's your very first visit, we're glad you're here. We believe good hospitality is simple: serve people well, make them feel welcome, and give them a meal worth coming back for. At Soulman's, it all comes back to what we call the Soulman's Winning Recipe: Great Bar-B-Que. Great Service. Great God. It's more than a saying — it's the foundation of who we are and how we've done business since 1974.

This Month at Soulman's

There's always a reason to come see us — seasonal plates, limited-time favorites, and the traditions our regulars plan their month around. Here's what's happening at Soulman's right now.

Feeding a crowd? We'd love to help.

Families, teams, churches, and businesses across North and East Texas have trusted Soulman's to feed their groups for over fifty years. From an office lunch to a wedding reception, we handle the food so you can enjoy the gathering — easy, memorable, and every bit as good as it is in the restaurant.

Why people keep coming back.

  • Tito Villalpando

I've came to this location for years and I've always had a good experience, but Gerald really took it to the next level. As the associate who served the meat, you can tell he is passionate about it. He explained the difference of the different types of brisket and even gave us samples to try so we would love our selection.
  • Jamie Mathis

We ate here for lunch and Oml so good. We're never disappointed with this place ever! The staff that was there are very friendly and the lady (Tabby) at the checkout was very respectful. Thank ya'll for the amazing service and amazing food!
  • Connie Gueits

We are visiting the area while we take a friends daughter to a nearby college and found this place online. It was so delicious! We will definitely recommend this place! Don’t forget to grab some ice cream before you head out the door, and ring the bell to let them know how delicious their food is...
  • John Kopet

I'm a truck driver so finding a place to eat at where your food doesn't come in a bag is getting harder these days. Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Mentioned to them it was my first visit and they were all very excited to help me with my food selection. Definitely needed this after a very long day. I will DEFINITELY be back!
  • Summer Pruett

We had the perfect Sunday night meal at Soulman’s Bar-B-Que. Everything we tried—from the pulled pork and brisket to the chicken—was carefully cooked with a crispy, well-seasoned exterior while staying tender and juicy inside. A special shoutout to James, the pitmaster, who portioned each of the meats with care and served everything with a smile...
  • Mark Henley

Been a Soulmans supporter since the mid 80’s. Always a great meal. I don’t like salt on my fries, so they are always happy to keep some on the side for me. Anthony is a really nice guy, always checking on everyone at their tables. You just don’t get that hometown feel at other places.
